Name: Terra Branford
Age: 19
DOB: April 21st
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 125 lbs.
Bloodtype: Unknown
Class: Mage Knight, Half-Esper
Weapons: Swords
Student Number: ----
Year: Freshman
Major: Undeclared
Room: ----
Roommate: ----
Classes:
Magi 201: Magical Energies
Magi 202: White Magic - Intermediate
Magi 303: Black Magic - Advanced
Phys 101: Swords
History 101: The Effects of War
Math 001: Introductory Technical Mathematics
Personality: For the most part, Terra is very easy to get along with. She has a little difficulty when it comes to trusting people, but she has learned to become a good judge of character over time, which has helped her to shake her old habit of being closed and distrustful. Still, earning her trust takes some doing. She has been hurt badly in the past, and while she is very friendly and seemingly open when meeting new people, a person must take the time to really get to know her in order for her to honestly open up.
However, despite being used and abused by Emperor Gestahl of Vector and his flunkies, she has recovered surprisingly well. She was plagued by amnesia for some time after escaping the Emperor’s control, something that caused her to be very withdrawn and even a little timid for awhile. Since then, she has grown into herself a bit more. Having spent so many years under the control of Gestahl’s slave crown, she never truly had a chance to develop her own beliefs and attitudes and values until fairly recently. The time she spent among friends during the quest to thwart Gestahl’s Empire has helped her to grow, and she has since become a warm, caring young woman with a thirst to learn about and simply experience the things she has been denied all her life.
Despite the fact that she lacks much real life experience, by many people’s standards, Terra is still something of a mother hen when it comes to those she cares about. She is very compassionate, a personality trait she revealed while caring for the orphaned children of Mobliz after the town suffered the wrath of Kefka’s Light of Judgment. Once quiet, cold, and confused, now strong, warm, honest and passionate, Terra has come a long way since her service to the Empire.
Physical Description: (forthcoming)
Background: Terra’s origin is rather unique. For as long as anyone can remember, humans and Espers have lived their lives separately, the Espers themselves sealed away to keep the humans from interfering with their way of life, not to mention to protect themselves from those who would steal or abuse their power. However, Terra herself is testament to the fact that with some effort, the two races may be able to coexist. Her mother was a human who happened to stumble into the realm of the Espers, where she was taken in by the Esper Maduin. Terra was born to Maduin and Madonna shortly thereafter, but their time together as a family was very short-lived. Emperor Gestahl had discovered the doorway to the Esper world, and launched an attack that resulted in his kidnapping many of the Espers there, including Terra. His plan was to use the Espers as weapons in the name of the Empire, but in Terra, he saw great potential to become something more.
Terra was raised as a soldier and servant of the Empire, and from infancy to the age of eighteen, spent her years in service to Gestahl and under the influence of the slave crown, a device that made her a mindless puppet with no control over her own thoughts and actions. Under the Emperor’s control, she gave shocking displays of her magic ability, and is infamous for killing fifty Magitek soldiers in a single exercise. There was also something to be said for her skill with a sword, but as natural magic was almost unheard of, her abilities as a sorceress were both praised and feared. Her sorcery skill was what earned her a place on the team that was deployed to the city of Narshe, where Empire soldiers proceeded to smoke out the rebels that had been fighting to keep Narshe free. It was there that she had her encounter with Tritoch, an Esper, who somehow managed to break the slave crown she wore and free her from its hold. Terra was finally free, but suffered from amnesia, remembering little more than her name and how to fight.
Before leaving Narshe, Terra met Locke Cole, who took her under his wing. It was under his guidance that she joined The Returners, a rebel group fighting against the Empire. While fighting with the Returners, she began to recover some of her memories, and started to develop a real sense of self as she became close friends with those around her. She found herself forced to leave the group for awhile when her Esper side suddenly and unexpectedly revealed itself – Terra was so terrified by her own transformation that she lost control and fled, only to be found and looked after by Ramuh until her friends were able to locate her and bring her back to her senses.
She didn’t stay with them for very long. When Kefka used the goddess statues to rearrange the face of the world, the group was once again scattered, and Terra found herself in the town of Mobliz. It was hit by Kefka’s Light of Judgment shortly after her arrival, and all that was left of the town was a handful of crumbling houses and a group of orphaned children, along with a young couple close to Terra’s own age, Duane and Katarin. Terra made Mobliz her home and, with the help of Katarin and Duane, took care of the children who had lost their families. She spent a year there before she was found by Celes Chere and Sabin Figaro, but when they were reunited, she told them she had lost her fighting spirit. It took some time, but eventually Terra realized that she had to go with her friends to stop Kefka. Leaving the children in Katarin’s capable hands, she and the others went forward to put a stop to Kefka’s madness.
After the defeat of Kefka, Terra returned to Mobliz for a short time, but Duane and Katarin refused to let her stay. As much as they would have liked to welcome her home, they both felt that Terra needed to go out into the world and continue to experience and exercise the freedom she had been denied for so long. Having already traveled the world over, Terra promised Katarin she would return to Mobliz and visit them regularly, then departed for Thamasa, where she asked Strago for guidance. He told her about Arcadia, and after Terra gave the plan some thought, he pointed her in the direction of the gate to the nexus. Terra crossed over to Arcadia, and after spending a few months living in the town there and giving herself time to adjust to a place that was so radically different from her home world, she finally enrolled herself at Candor University, with hopes that the college experience would make up for some of what she had already missed out on.
Sexuality: Terra is heterosexual, though she has very, very little romantic experience. What little she does have has been, as far as she knows, one-sided – and she is perhaps still too naïve about matters of the heart to realize what she was really feeling for the man in question.
